The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) have issued warnings against travel to certain parts of Thailand yesterday. Storms and heavy rainfall have caused damage and there is risk of mudslides and flash flooding. Affected provinces include the popular areas of Krabi and Koh Samui amongst others. Travellers planning to visit these areas should check the FCO website and their travel agents for further advice.
It would be advisable to be extra vigilant with insect bite avoidance when travel to these areas are allowed again, as the mosquito population will increase with more breeding areas with small puddles and pockets of water following the flood.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA) are also issuing advice about travel to Japan, including the risks of radiation exposure due to the current situation there.
In summary
Avoid all but essential travel to north eastern Japan and Tokyo due to widespread damage to the area affected by the earthquake and tsunami
British Nationals are advised by the FCO to avoid an 80km area surrounding the Fukushima nuclear facility
The WHO has issued a FAQ document. http://www.who.int/hac/crises/jpn/faqs/en/index.html
Please check the FCO and HPA sites for up to date advice.
