I am the Managing Director of The Travel Clinic Ltd, having worked in the field for many years.
I lead a team of nurses and doctors in Cambridge and Ipswich providing thorough assessments of any current health risks that could affect our travellers. We offer malaria tablets and vaccines, when appropriate and give advice on protection against any other diseases one may encounter while away. We offer a full range of travel medicine and travel vaccinations.
I am a national speaker on Travel Health issues, speaking to GPs, nurses and the corporate world about risks and protection of our traveller’s health. I am a member of the International Society of Travel Medicine.
I am also a Director of a company called Strem Chemicals UK Ltd who import and deliver quality research chemicals to research establishments

Jane became a partner in General Practitice in Cambridge city in 2004. She's finally - perhaps - settled down after after 11 years overseas. She's worked mainly on child survival projects in Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Indonesia, India and, for six years, Nepal. She also has knowledge of the Andes through research in Peru on mountain sickness, and she has also travelled in southern Africa. Jane both teaches and writes extensively on travel health; she has taught on courses run by the Royal Geographical Society, VSO, the Register of Engineers for Disaster Relief, Royal College of Nursing, and continues to lecture regularly on Travel Health at the London School of Hygiene & Medicine, for Engineers without Borders. She is a prolific author; her publications include Bugs, Bites & Bowels, Shitting Pretty, Lemurs of the Lost World, Your Child Abroad: a travel health guide and A Glimpse of Eternal Snows. She has contributed to a variety of medical journals, to BBC Wildlife magazine and to the Independent newspaper. She is also a regular columnist for Wanderlust. Jane is on the editorial committee of the British Travel Health Association. She is a zoology graduate with post graduate research experience in parasitology and an interest in biting insects and dangerous wildlife. She has acted as a cave rescue warden is also a qualified SCUBA diver and ASA Life Saver. Recently she returned to rowing and has participated in the Town Bumps for the last three summers.

Rachel Howarth Travel Health Nurse Advisor - Cambridge Clinic

Rachel qualified as a Nurse in 1994. She worked on surgical wards in her local hospital for 5 years, before deciding to go on a 4 month adventure, an overland trip to Africa. She fell in love with travelling, and ended up spending the next 5 years exploring the world, funding herself doing agency Nursing in hospitals back home, and in Australia and New Zealand.
Rachel contracted malaria on one of her trips, which made her decide to learn about Tropical Disease, in order to protect herself and others in their adventures. She got her Diploma in Tropical Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2002.
Since 2004 when Rachel finally came home to settle, she has worked in Travel Clinics, helping to prepare others to safely travel. She still loves hearing others plan their adventures, and hopes that her advice will help them have a happy and healthy time.

Amanda Cliffe Travel Health Nurse Advisor - Cambridge Clinic

Amanda trained as a nurse at University College Hospital London. Following a period in general nursing, she then trained as a midwife in Northwick Park Hospital, Harrow. She then decided to follow the practice nursing route and spent many years in Travel Nursing and in Practice Nursing. She specialized in Asthma, diabetes and family planning.
Amanda has a long list of travel destinations that she would like to visit. She visited India last year, and realized the importance of vaccines, bite prevention, and was very interested in the differences in culture in other countries.
Amanda has attended a recent one week course in Travel Medicine at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Diseases consolidating her knowledge gained over the years.

Katy qualified as a nurse in 1998. She worked on a medical ward immediately after qualifying and then went on to work as a prison nurse - an eye opening experience!
Nine years ago she started work as a Practice Nurse at a GP's surgery in Bury St Edmunds. Over the years she developed her skills and interests and obtained professional qualifications which included Diplomas in Asthma and Hypertension as well as a Specialist Certiciate in Minor Illness. Katy has a strong interest in travel medicine which lead to her completing the short course in Travel Medicine at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Diseases.
Katy has recently had her first child and is enjoying being a new mum and working part-time.

Lesley Gibson Receptionist / Office Manager - Cambridge Clinic

Lesley Gibson, originally from South Africa, came to the UK to join her family in 2008. She has 10 years experience in customer services and the South African Real Estate Industry where she became well known for her professionalism and caring attitude. Lesley is the Receptionist / Office Manager for the Travel Clinic and has a varied role. She is often found answering the telephone, assisting clients in reception, processing a payment and listening to the nurses’ queries all at the same time. She has a contagious laugh and enjoys the funny side of life (she loves to play pranks on people).

Lyndsay Smith Travel Health Nurse Advisor - Ipswich Clinic

Lindsay qualified in Romford, Essex in 1991, and has her diploma in Nursing and Asthma. She worked as a practice nurse for many years, but more recently is employed as a part time school nurse at a Private School in Framlingham. She also works at the Travel Clinic situated at Gilmour Piper in Ipswich.

Sarah trained at the Middlesex Hospital, London working in Cardiology and then did her Oncology training at The Royal Marsden Hospital before moving into Practice Nursing.
For the last 10 years she has been based in a practice in Suffolk with a special interest in Travel Medicine. She attends regular specialist and advanced travel study days and has many travel plans herself when time is more plentiful. She is determined her dreams will become reality!
She has joined the team at Ipswich and juggles Travel Medicine, Practice Nursing and her family.

Physician in Charge at Bupa Screening Cambridge 1990-2004.Civilian GP to Royal Engineers 1990-2004.Occupational Health Physician from 2004 onwards. At present working as Occupational Health Physician in a variety of settings including the NHS. Interests: Occupational Medicine, Preventative Medicine and Health Screening
